BOSTON _ Reynaldo Lopez posted another strong outing Sunday, leading the White Sox to a 5-2 win over the Red Sox before 36,998 at Fenway Park.
The White Sox won the series and ended their road trip to Minnesota and Boston 4-3. They're 2-0-1 in their three series in June after the players called a team meeting in Cleveland on May 30 following a sweep by the Indians.
More importantly, the two series wins have come against the Brewers and Red Sox, two of the best teams in their respective leagues.
Lopez allowed one earned run on six hits in 6 1/3 innings, earning his first win since May 20 against the Rangers. It was the 10th time in his 13 starts Lopez has allowed two or fewer earned runs.
The Sox took the lead in the first on a leadoff single by Yoan Moncada and a run-scoring double by Jose Abreu. The Red Sox tied it in the second on Rafael Devers' RBI single on a Lopez changeup, but Lopez escaped further damage when first baseman Matt Davidson fielded a grounder by Jackie Bradley Jr. and threw Devers out at the plate.
The next two White Sox runs came without the benefit of a hit. In the third, Abreu walked with one out before Daniel Palka grounded to second. The throw to second for the force eluded Devers, who was playing over on the shift, allowing Abreu to advance to third on the error.
After Davidson was hit by a pitch, Porcello walked Anderson to force home the go-ahead run.
With the Sox still leading 2-1 in the sixth, Anderson drew a lead-off walk and advanced on a sacrifice by Charlie Tilson. Trayce Thompson hit a grounder to the right side that first baseman Mitch Moreland grabbed and threw to Porcello at the bag.
But Porcello stumbled and fell after touching the base, bumping into first base umpire James Hoye as Anderson continued running. Porcello's throw to the plate was late, and the Sox had a 3-1 lead.
Lopez ran into trouble in the sixth, walking Devers with two outs before Brock Holt singled. After a mound meeting with pitching coach Don Cooper, Lopez hit Bradley in the leg to load the bases.
But manager Rick Renteria left Lopez in to face switch-hitter Blake Swihart, who popped to Anderson in short left on a 98 mph fastball, ending the threat.
Lopez was removed after a one-out double in the seventh, and Jace Fry was called upon after Nate Jones loaded the bases. Fry induced a sharp grounder to second, but Moncada botched it for an error as the run scored.
But the Red Sox left the bases loaded again when Holt flied to center.
After a single by Moncada and a two-out intentional walk to Abreu in the eighth, Palka doubled to the gap in left-center on a 97 mph fastball from Matt Barnes, bringing home two insurance runs.
Joakim Soria threw a scoreless ninth for his eighth save, and the Sox celebrated their biggest series win of the year.
