The White Sox set their Opening Day roster Thursday, which included 16 pitchers as manager Rick Renteria hinted at this week. Among the choices are right-handers Jimmy Lambert and Codi Heuer and left-hander Ross Detwiler.
Carson Fulmer, a 2015 first-round draft choice, is not among the group. The right-hander was designated for assignment.
Second baseman Nick Madrigal, the No. 4 overall pick in the 2018 draft, was among a group reassigned to their taxi squad in Schaumburg: Right-hander Drew Anderson, outfielder Luis Basabe, right-hander Dane Dunning, outfielder Luis González, right-hander Tayron Guerrero, right-hander Tyler Johnson, catcher Yermín Mercedes and infielder Andrew Vaughn.
The contract of Nicky Delmonico was purchased from AAA Charlotte. Delmonico has a chance to be in the Opening Day lineup with Nomar Mazara going on the injured list.
