White Sox's Rick Hahn, Cubs' Jed Hoyer receive high marks

Nov. 07--Despite their teams posting losing seasons, Rick Hahn of the Chicago White Sox and Jed Hoyer of the Chicago Cubs were two of seven general managers listed as executive of the year candidates for 2015 by Baseball Prospectus.

Hahn was credited with the signing of American League Rookie of the Year candidate Jose Abreu and the acquisition of Adam Eaton, along with signing left-hander Jose Quintana to an extension through 2018.

Baseball Prospectus also cites the signing of Latin American talents Felix Mercedes and Johandro Alfaro, along with the progress of former first round pick Tim Anderson and signing of left-hander Carlos Rodon that could help make the Sox a strong American League Central contender in the future.

Hoyer was credited by Baseball Prospectus for his poise and charisma during a time that has seen the Cubs acquire 16 players since 2012, with their average age only 25. Hoyer also is credited with stockpiling young position player talent while gaining financial flexibility.

The other GMs under consideration by Baseball Prospectus were Dan Duquette of the Baltimore Orioles, A.J. Preller of the San Diego Padres, Alex Anthopoulos of the Toronto Blue Jays, Ben Cherington of the Boston Red Sox and Brian Sabean of the world champion San Francisco Giants.
