Nov. 05--First baseman Jose Abreu and left-hander Chris Sale of the Chicago White Sox were named finalists for awards from the Baseball Writers Association of America.
Abreu, 27, a Cuban native, batted .317 with 36 home runs and 107 RBIs to become one of three finalists for the American League Rookie of the Year award. Reliever Dellin Betances of the New York Yankees and pitcher Matt Shoemaker of the Los Angeles Angels are the other finalists for the award, which will be announced Monday night.
Sale, 25, was named a finalist for the AL Cy Young Award after posting a 12-4 record and 2.17 ERA with 208 strikeouts in 174 innings. Felix Hernandez of the Seattle Mariners and Corey Kluber of the Cleveland Indians are the other finalists for the award, which will be announced Nov. 12.

Gold Glove update: In the Gold Glove Awards announced Tuesday night, White Sox shortstop Alexei Ramirez lost to J.J. Hardy of Baltimore, who won his third consecutive AL Gold Glove honor for exceptional defense.
White Sox center fielder Adam Eaton lost to Adam Jones of Baltimore.
