White Sox-Royals game postponed due to inclement weather

Tyler LaRiviere/Sun-Times

Saturday’s White Sox-Royals game was postponed due to inclement weather. The game will be made up as part of a split doubleheader May 14.

Both games will be seven innings and the teams will be allowed to add an extra player for the doubleheader.

The announcement of the postponement came around four hours before the scheduled first pitch. The weather forecast calls for rain for most of Saturday with no window long enough to get the game in.

The Sox entered Saturday looking to continue their momentum after Friday’s 6-0 win in their home opener. Lance Lynn threw a complete-game shutout while Yermin Mercedes homered again in the team’s first game in front of home fans since the end of the 2019 season.

Dylan Cease (0-0, 5.79) was scheduled to start Saturday against Kansas City’s Mike Minor. As of 9:30, there is no word from the Sox about Sunday’s starters.
