
The White Sox reinstated left-hander Gio González from the injured list on Tuesday and optioned right-hander Zack Burdi to the Schaumburg training facility.
González, 34, went on the injured list Aug. 30 (retroactive to Aug. 27) with a right groin strain. He has appeared in six games, including four starts, pitching to a 1-1 record with a 5.11 ERA and 26 strikeouts over 24 2⁄3 innings. In his last outing, González pitched 3 2⁄3 innings of scoreless relief against the Cubs on August 22.
Burdi, 25, goes back to Schaumburg after appearing in eight games, including his major league debut on Aug. 8. He allowed nine earned runs over 7 1⁄3 innings for a 11.05 ERA. Four of the 11 hits Burdi allowed were home runs.
The White Sox open a two-game series at Pittsburgh Tuesday night with Dylan Cease pitching for the Sox. Wednesday’s Sox starter is Dane Dunning.
