The White Sox officially put outfielder Eloy Jimenez on the 10-day injured list with a right ulnar nerve contusion Wednesday. The 22-year-old suffered the injury Tuesday night after colliding with Charlie Tilson in the outfield as the two tried to track a ball in the team’s 11-0 loss to the Royals.
Infielder Ryan Goins had his contract purchased from Class AAA Charlotte and pitcher Omar Minaya was outrighted to Charlotte in order to clear a spot on the 40-man roster.
Jimenez and Tilson ran into each other while trying to track a ball off the bat of Kansas City’s Whit Merrifield. Jimenez had been calling for the ball, but when Tilson made his move to attempt the catch, the two teammates ended up running into each other with Tilson’s glove catching Jimenez’s right arm.
Goins, 31, has played nearly 500 MLB games with the Blue Jays and Royals but spent the first half of this season in the minors. He’s performed well in Charlotte with 10 homers and a .322/.406/.531 batting line in 316 plate appearances.
