White Sox left-hander Dallas Keuchel’s sore back landed him on the injured list Thursday, the team announced in a move that is retroactive to Sept. 7. Right-hander Reynaldo López was recalled from the Schaumburg training facility.

Manager Rick Renteria said Wednesday that Keuchel’s scheduled turn against the Tigers Saturday would be skipped and Keuchel would aim to start in the Sox’ four-game home series against the Twins, which runs Monday through Thursday. It’s possible Keuchel returns to face the Twins Thursday.

Keuchel, 32, is 6-2 with a 2.19 ERA over nine starts this season, his first after signing a three-year, $55.5 million deal with the Sox in the offseason. He is second among American League pitchers in ERA, slugging percentage (.279), wins and is third in opponents OPS (.542).

Lopez, the Sox’ best starter in 2018 who regressed in 2019, was considered a key to the rotation and the Sox’ No. 3 starter going into the season, but he missed time with a sore shoulder and has struggled when healthy, going 0-2 with an 8.38 ERA over four starts.

Lopez will likely start against the Tigers Saturday or Sunday.

The Sox are off Thursday.
