White Sox place closer David Robertson on bereavement list, recall Carlos Sanchez

April 29--The White Sox placed closer David Robertson on the bereavement list Thursday following the death of his father-in-law before the opener of a four-game series against the Orioles in Baltimore.

Robertson will miss three days before returning to the Sox on Sunday, manager Robin Ventura said.

The Sox called up infielder Carlos Sanchez from Triple-A Charlotte to fill Robertson's roster spot. They still have seven relief pitchers on their roster because they called up Daniel Webb from Charlotte on Wednesday.

Robertson had a 0.87 ERA with 13 strikeouts and was 8-for-9 on save opportunities so far this season. He pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts Wednesday night to finish a 4-0 victory and a series sweep over the Blue Jays in Toronto.

In Robertson's absence, Ventura said he could turn to right-handers Nate Jones (0.84 ERA) and Matt Albers (0.00 ERA) or left-hander Zach Duke (2.25 ERA) to be the closer. The Sox bullpen leads the majors with a 1.32 ERA.

Sanchez played in 120 games for the Sox last season and was hitting .309 with four doubles, three homers, nine RBIs and six stolen basese in 20 games with Charlotte this year. The Sox have been playing without an extra bench player since April 19.
