Sunday's recap: Brewers 14, White Sox 3

March 23--The Brewers hit three home runs off White Sox right-hander Jeff Samardzija on Sunday in a 13-4 White Sox loss at Maryvale Baseball Park.

Samardzija gave up five earned runs on eight hits over 4 1/3 innings, but he brushed the results off, saying, "Those things happen."

At the plate

Sox shortstop Alexei Ramirez was 2-for-3 and drove in the first two Sox runs. Outfielder J.B. Shuck was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

On the mound

Reliever Dan Jennings allowed three hits and two earned runs in one inning, and reliever Maikel Cleto didn't record an out, walking two and allowing two earned runs.

In the field

The Sox defense didn't help Samardzija. As Ramirez tried to hold a runner on first in the second inning, Jean Segura scored from third for the Brewers' first run. Second baseman Micah Johnson also committed a fielding error.

Key number

13: RBIs for Ramirez this spring, the most among all Sox players.

The quote

"Spring training doesn't go on the back of your baseball card so it don't mean nothing. You go out there and make sure you feel good and make sure your pitches are doing what they are doing. You learn from it when it comes to mistakes you make, and if it didn't go well, (you ask) why didn't it go well?" -- Samardzija.

Up next

At Padres, 3:05 p.m. Monday. LH Jose Quintana vs. RH Tyson Ross.
