CLEVELAND — White Sox manager Rick Renteria will miss the team’s series against the Angels at Guaranteed Rate Field this weekend as has surgery to repair a torn right rotator cuff.
Bench coach Joe McEwing will fill in for Renteria, who will have the procedure done Friday in Chicago.
Renteria had hoped to have surgery after the season but the discomfort has become too painful.
“It continues to worsen,” Renteria said.
Renteria, 57, missed four games in 2018 after experiencing lightheadedness in Minneapolis on Aug. 20. He also missed three games last season to attend his mother’s funeral.
