Carlos Rodon, who left the White Sox’ game against the Brewers after two innings Monday, went on the 10-day injured list with left shoulder soreness Tuesday.
The Sox purchased the contract of right-handed pitcher Brady Lail from the Schaumburg training facility and designated outfield prospect Luis Basabe for assignment.
Lail, 26, was a non-roster invitee to spring training with the Sox after signing as a free agent in November. Lail went 4-2 with a 3.83 ERA and 67 strikeouts in 26 games (one start) over three levels in the Yankees’ minor league system last season. He made one appearance for the Yankees before getting designated for assignment.
Basabe, 23, came to the Sox from the Red Sox along with Yoan Moncada and Michael Kopech in the Chris Sale trade. He is a career .248 hitter in 598 games in the Red Sox and White Sox organizations.
Rodon yielded five runs, four hits and three walks in 3 2⁄3 innings against the Indians in his first start and gave up one run in two innings Monday. His velocity was down in the second start.
The Sox’ Opening Day starter in 2019, Rodon made seven starts last season before having Tommy John surger. He was limited to 20 in 2018 coming off shoulder surgery.
