White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu was named American League Player of the Week on Tuesday for his performance from May 24-30, the sixth such honor of the reigning AL Most Valuable Player’s career.

Abreu, 34, went 9-for- 24 (.375) with two home runs, two doubles, 10 RBI and four walks in seven games last week. He hit safely in six games, including on May 25 when he homered and drove in four runs against the Cardinals.

Abreu won Player of the Week honors in April 2014, August 2015, September 2015, May 2017 and August 2020.

In May, Abreu batted .333/.422/.631 with six homers, six doubles, six home runs, 27 RBI and a 1.053 OPS over 25 games. He drove in 25 or more runs for the seventh time in his career.

Abreu leads the majors with 46 RBI and is looking to join Detroit’s Cecil Fielder (1990-92) as the only players to lead the AL in RBI in three consecutive seasons.
