Jose Abreu homered again.
The White Sox first baseman took one out of the park in his first at-bat Sunday against Yu Darvish, giving the streaking Sox a 1-0 lead in the second inning.
Of late, it’s all Abreu does. He homered in his last three at-bats in the Sox’ 7-4 win over the Cubs at Wrigley Field Saturday night, a day after hitting two in the series opener Friday, a 10-1 Sox win. He became the first Sox player to homer in four consecutive plate appearances and first to hit six homers in a series.
Abreu grounded out sharply to second base — exit velocity 112 mph — in the fourth inning to end the streak at four.
Abreu raised his season total to 11 homers and the Sox’ total to 55, which led the major leagues. Abreu was 7-for-11 with six homers and nine RBI in the series after grounding out.
The last major league player to hit four homers in a row was J.D. Martinez on Sept. 4, 2017, in the same game against the Dodgers.
