White Sox, Indians rained out

CLEVELAND — The White Sox’ final game of a four-game series in Cleveland scheduled for Wednesday afternoon has been postponed due to inclement weather.

It will be made up as part of a split doubleheader (12:10 p.m. and 5:10 p.m. CT) on Sept. 23, the first two of five games in Cleveland.

Right-hander Lance Lynn, who was scheduled to start for the Sox on three days rest against Jean Carlos Mejia, will start Thursday when the Sox open a four-game series against the Tigers at Guaranteed Rate Field.

The AL Central Division leading Sox (33-22) lost two of the first three games of the series against the Indians (30-24), who are close behind in second place with four months remaining in the season. The teams split a doubleheader Monday and the Indians held on to defeat the Sox 6-5 on Tuesday night.

Lynn will be followed by Dallas Keuchel, Lucas Giolito and Carlos Rodon in the Sox rotation in the Tigers series.

Lynn went 5-0 with a 1.64 ERA in six starts in May and is a candidate for the AL Pitcher of the Month honor. Lynn become the fifth Sox pitcher to go 5-0 in May, joining teammate Lucas Giolito (2019), Steve Stone (1977), Joe Haynes (1942) and John Whitehead (1935).
