CHICAGO _ Nicky Delmonico hit a walk-off three-run home run with one out in the ninth to give the White Sox a stunning 6-4 victory against the Red Sox on Thursday night at Guaranteed Rate Field.
Delmonico hit a 0-1 pitch from reliever Ryan Brasier over the center-field fence.
Lucas Giolito pitched five solid innings in his return from the injured list in front of 15,118 fans.
Andrew Benintendi scored in the seventh on a grounder by J.D. Martinez to give the Red Sox a 4-3 lead. Benintendi had two hits, including a solo home run in the third off Giolito.
The White Sox reinstated Giolito from the injured list earlier Thursday. He suffered a strained left hamstring April 17 against the Royals.
The right-hander allowed three runs on seven hits, struck out seven and walked two.
Catcher James McCann had two hits and a walk for the White Sox, including a two-run homer in the first. It was his third home run of the season.
McCann doubled and scored on a single by Jose Rondon in the sixth to tie the score at 3.
The tie didn't last long. Reliever Josh Osich walked Benintendi leading off the seventh. Mookie Betts moved Benintendi to third with a single off reliever Evan Marshall, and Benintendi scored when the White Sox forced Betts at second on the grounder by Martinez.
The White Sox battled back in the ninth. Rondon reached on an error with one out and moved to third on a single to left by Yonder Alonso. Delmonico followed with the game-winning home run.
It was the second consecutive walk-off win for the White Sox. Alonso hit a two-run single with two out in the ninth Wednesday to beat the Orioles 7-6 in the second game of a doubleheader.
