Wednesday's recap: White Sox 5, Blue Jays 3 (10 innings)

May 28--The summary

Jose Abreu hit a 10th-inning triple and scored the winning run on Adam LaRoche's RBI single Wednesday as the Sox pulled away for a 5-3 victory over the Blue Jays at the Rogers Centre. Gordon Beckham added an RBI double in the 10th as the Sox broke a four-game losing streak.

At the plate

Abreu was credited with a two-run double when Blue Jays right fielder Ezequiel Carrera lost the fly ball in the sun to help the Sox to an early lead.

On the mound

Jeff Samardzija allowed an unearned run on eight hits in seven innings. Closer David Robertson gave up a ninth-inning homer to Josh Donaldson for the second straight game but pitched a scoreless 10th for the victory.

In the field

Abreu snagged Danny Valencia's hard grounder at first base for the final out of the eighth inning, stranding two Blue Jays and preserving a temporary Sox lead.

Key number

4 -- Donaldson home runs in three games against the Sox, including the tying homer Wednesday.

The quote

"(Samardzija) pitched a great game. He just has been on time with everything, really aggressive. Emotionally he gets stronger as the game goes along. ... If Robbie could stay away from Donaldson, we'd be all right. The guy is just on fire." -- Sox manager Robin Ventura

The quote II

"It was clutch by (Abreu), and we have guys playing hard. We're not playing great right now, but we're doing a lot of things the right way. We just have to keep busting our butts." -- Beckham on Abreu's triple
