White Sox left-hander John Danks pitched his first shutout since 2011 to help the Sox run away with a 6-0 victory over the Astros on Sunday at Minute Maid Park. With help from a solid defense that turned three double plays, including one for the final two outs, Danks completed the victory with 118 pitches.
At the plate
Conor Gillaspie hit a bases-loaded, two-run single in the third inning, and Adam LaRoche hit a solo home run in the seventh. Tyler Flowers and Carlos Sanchez had RBI singles.
On the mound
Danks became the first major-league pitcher to complete a shutout with 10 hits or more since the Twins' Carlos Silva in 2004.
In the field
With the bases loaded in the third, LaRoche completed an inning-ending double play by diving for Alexei Ramirez's throw and keeping his foot on the base. A relay from center fielder Adam Eaton to Ramirez to Flowers caught Jonathan Villar at home, dashing an inside-the-park home run attempt.
