April 15--CLEVELAND -- Indians right-hander Carlos Carrasco was knocked from the game against the White Sox early in the first inning Tuesday after taking a line drive to the face.
After allowing a leadoff single in the first inning, Carrasco was hit by Sox left fielder Melky Cabrera's single at Progressive Field. In a replay, the ball appeared to hit his hand or glove first before bouncing up.
He stayed face down on the side of the mound for a couple of minutes while trainers tended to him. He eventually stood and was helped to a cart, riding away from the field while holding the side of his face.
Indians right-hander Zach McAllister entered the game with two runners on, and the Sox scored twice in the first to take a 2-0 lead.
Sox catcher Tyler Flowers hit a two-out RBI single in the fourth inning off McAllister to push the Sox to a 3-0 lead.
On the mound
Sox left-hander Jose Quintana gave up his first run in the fourth inning on an RBI double from Ryan Raburn that cut the Sox lead to 3-1.
At the plate
Sox center fielder Adam Eaton led off, followed by left fielder Melky Cabrera, first baseman Jose Abreu, designated hitter Adam LaRoche, right fielder Avisail Garcia, shortstop Alexei Ramirez, third baseman Conor Gillaspie, catcher Tyler Flowers and Emilio Bonifacio.
In the field
Bonifacio made his first start of the season at second base Tuesday.
He was signed to a one-year, $4 million contract with a 2016 club option in early January to be the Sox's utility man. He had one at-bat against the Royals last week.
The quote
"The last two games were great It gave us the confidence it was there, and we were jelling and coming together and the city of Chicago is not burning to the ground. The Titanic is now upright. We'll be all right." --Eaton on winning Saturday and Sunday.
