Sunday's recap: Orioles 9, White Sox 1

July 06--The summary

Things unraveled quickly for the White Sox once starter Carlos Rodon was lifted with two on and nobody out in the sixth inning of the White Sox's 9-1 loss to the Orioles on Sunday. Caleb Joseph doubled off Daniel Webb to give Baltimore a 4-0 lead. The O's scored four more in the seventh, when the Sox committed two more errors. The Sox's winning streak ended at four.

At the plate

Adam Jones had two doubles and Steve Pearce three hits and three RBIs for the Orioles.

On the mound

Rodon gave up four hits, four runs (three earned), walked four and struck out seven in five. Miguel Gonzalez gave up a run, four hits, a walk and struck out three in six innings to earn the victory.

In the field

The Sox made four errors, including two on one play when Conor Gillaspie was charged a fielding and throwing miscue on Nolan Reimold's grounder with one out in the first. A day after Avisail Garcia stole what would have been a game-tying homer by Chris Davis in the ninth, J.B. Shuck reached over the left-field fence in the eighth Sunday to rob Davis again.

Key number

57: Errors committed by the White Sox in 79 games this season.

The quote

"That's in his DNA of going out there. He does not want to come out of any game." -- manager Robin Ventura on Rodon
