White Sox Game Day: Eaton sick; Johnson leads off

May 02--MINNEAPOLIS -- After two ugly White Sox losses, left-hander Jose Quintana tries to help the Sox get back on track against the Twins on Friday night at Target Field. Quintana enters with a 1-1 record and a 6.55 ERA and faces Twins right-hander Kyle Gibson, who is 1-2 with a 4.84 ERA.

At the plate

Sox center fielder Adam Eaton is out of the lineup due to illness.

Second baseman Micah Johnson will lead off, followed by shortstop Alexei Ramirez, left fielder Melky Cabrera, first baseman Jose Abreu, designated hitter Adam LaRoche, right fielder Avisail Garcia, third baseman Conor Gillaspie, catcher Tyler Flowers and center fielder J.B. Shuck.

On the mound

The Sox hope for better from Quintana than they received from their last two starters. Jeff Samardzija and Chris Sale combined to allow seventeen runs -- 15 earned -- over eight innings in the Sox losses to the Orioles and Twins, respectively.

The quote

"Hopefully turning the calendar is a good thing. For guys, it can help you getting out of the early month and having something that just looks different. We're a good team and we're talented, but we haven't played all that well. So you stick together. That's the biggest thing is the way these guys stick together. They realize they're better than what they've shown and we sense it's going to get better."

Up next

At Twins, 1:10 p.m. Saturday, WGN-9.
