Sept. 30--The White Sox host the AL Central champion Royals Tuesday night in the first game of their final home series at U.S. Cellular Field. The Sox (73-83) enter the game having lost their previous two games. A Sox victory would surpass their win total from 2014.
On the mound
Jeff Samardzija (10-13, 5.04) makes possibly his final start of the season, coming off his best outing when he one-hit the Tigers at Detroit. Samardzija has not fared well at home this season, however. He enters Tuesday night with an 0-7 record and 10.01 ERA in his last seven starts at U.S. Cellular Field. For the season, he is 4-8 with a 5.53 ERA in 15 home starts.
At the plate
Despite entering the game in a 5-for-31 slump, Jose Abreu is on pace for 30 homers and 101 RBIs. He is trying to join Albert Pujols as the only players to record 30 homers and 100 RBIs in their first two seasons.
The number
94: Runs scored by Adam Eaton this season. He is trying to become the first Sox player to reach 100 runs scored since Jermaine Dye (103) and Jim Thome (108) in 2006.
The quote
"You always want to find that stuff out and the end of the year is always tough, especially with a year like this. I'm hopeful it's the same group." Manager Robin Ventura on the fate of his coaching staff.
