The White Sox released a statement Wednesday denying that the team intentionally omitted Yankees relief pitcher Keynan Middleton’s name from the scoreboard during their matchup Wednesday night. Chicago traded Middleton to New York at the trade deadline and then he proceeded to rip his former team for its “no rules” culture.
“The omission was not intentional but resulted because of duplicate players listed under one uniform number on MLB’s downloadable Yankees roster,” the statement read. “This glitch has arisen from time to time this season when multiple players have worn the same number for a team, and we regret it occurred tonight.”

Both Middleton and minor leaguer Everson Pereira wear No. 93 for New York.
After Middleton’s initial comments ripping the franchise, White Sox general manager Rick Hahn issued a response where he called the remarks “ironic” and claimed the 30-year-old reliever had apologized to him for “unprofessional behavior” just a week before the trade deadline.
