CHICAGO _ The White Sox suffered a setback before Thursday's game against the Indians when starting pitcher Dylan Cease was scratched because of a left hamstring strain.
Five pitchers stepped in as the Sox blanked the Indians 8-0 in front of 16,273 at Guaranteed Rate Field.
Daniel Palka hit two solo home runs as the Sox took two of three from the Indians, who fell two games behind the Rays for the second American League wild-card berth.
Cease was scratched as a precaution after his warm-up in the bullpen. He will be evaluated further Friday.
Jose Ruiz allowed three hits and struck out one in 1? innings. Josh Osich pitched 3? hitless innings. Jimmy Cordero had one strikeout in two perfect innings. Jace Fry allowed one hit and struck out two in one inning. Hector Santiago struck out the side in the ninth.
The Sox limited the Indians to four hits.
James McCann hit a three-run homer in the fourth. Palka followed with his first home run of the season to give the Sox a 4-0 lead.
The Sox added two more runs in the fifth. Tim Anderson singled and scored on a triple by Jose Abreu.
Abreu scored on a double by Zack Collins, who went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Anderson extended his hitting streak to 13 games. He went 1-for-4 and leads the AL with a .338 batting average with four games remaining. DJ LeMahieu of the Yankees is second at .328.
Palka's second home run came in the sixth.
The Sox won the season series with the Indians 11-8.
