
The White Sox claimed right-hander Jimmy Cordero off waivers from the Seattle Mariners Friday and optioned him to Class AAA Charlotte. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Sox transferred left-hander Carlos Rodón to the 60-day injured list.
Cordero, 27, owns a 5.40 ERA with 20 strikeouts and three saves in 14 appearances over 16 2⁄3 innings this season with Class AAA Fresno in the Nationals organization, Class AAA Buffalo (Blue Jays) and Class AA Arkansas (Mariners). He appeared in one game with the Blue Jays, suffering the loss on May 22 vs. Boston when he allowed one run over 1 1⁄3 innings.
Cordero began the season in the Nationals system before being claimed off waivers by the Blue Jays on May 15 and the Mariners on May 27. He owns a 17-20 record and 4.15 ERA over parts of eight minor-league seasons. He also appeared in 22 games in relief with the Nationals in 2018, going 1-2 with a 5.68 ERA over 19 innings.
Rodón, 26, was placed on the 10-day disabled list on May 2. He underwent Tommy John surgery on May 15.
