Due to the uncertainty of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the White Sox have canceled SoxFest 2021, the team announced Friday.
The fan convention was slated for a second straight year at McCormick Place Jan. 22-23.
“We are exploring new ways to connect with fans this winter,” the team said in a statement announcing the decision, which was not unexpected. “Additional updates about virtual program will be announced in the coming months.”
The weekend event serves as a kickoff before spring training, with many current players, former stars and staff attending and fans young and old enjoying photo sessions, autograph opportunities and seminars.
The Cubs canceled Cubs Convention in July.
“Each season, the entire organization looks forward to bringing our team and fans together at our annual fan fest in celebration of a new season of White Sox baseball,” the Sox’ statement said. “Given the uncertainty of the ongoing public health crisis, SoxFest has been canceled.”
