The White Sox announced Tuesday that Andy Masur will serve as their play-by-play voice on WGN Radio this season. Masur will join analyst Darrin Jackson after the death of longtime announcer Ed Farmer on April 1.
Masur, who graduated from Bradley University and Maine East High School, has been the pregame host for the last two seasons. He also called an inning for home games and filled in for both Farmer and Jackson.
“I am truly honored and humbled to join my friend Darrin Jackson in the White Sox radio booth this season,” Masur said in a statement. “Many people before me have said legends cannot be replaced, and the great Ed Farmer is truly irreplaceable. As a fellow Chicagoan, I hope my passion for the city and the game of baseball connects with White Sox fans in a way that Ed would be proud. I want to thank the White Sox and WGN Radio for this fantastic opportunity.”
Masur is in his second stint with WGN. He previously worked for the station from 1997 to 2007 as part of Cubs broadcasts. After spending eight seasons with the Padres’ radio team, he returned to WGN in 2014. In addition to the Sox, Masur has handled broadcast duties for the Blackhawks and Northwestern.
Jackson is entering his 21st season as a Sox broadcaster and 12th in the radio booth (2009-present). He served as the club’s TV analyst from 2000 to 2008.
