White Sox activate right-hander Dylan Covey, DFA Juan Minaya

OAKLAND, Calif. — The White Sox removed right-hander Dylan Covey from the injured list before their game against the Athletics Saturday.

To make room, they designated right-handed reliever Juan Minaya for assignment.

Covey, a fourth-round A’s draft pick in 2013 who was selected by the Sox in the Rule 5 draft in 2016, is 1-4 with a 4.58 ERA this season.

Covey, 27, will start this afternoon’s game at the Athletics. He has been on the injured list since June 9 (retroactive to June 6) with right shoulder inflammation. Covey is 1-4 with a 4.58 ERA (19 ER/37.1 IP) and a .238 opponents average (34-143) in nine games (seven starts) with Chicago this season.

Minaya, 28, owned a 3.90 ERA with 27 strikeouts over 22 relief appearances with the Sox in 2019.

The Sox 40-man roster decreases to 39.
