PHOENIX _ White Sox left-hander Jose Quintana turned in his worst start of the year Wednesday afternoon at Chase Field in an 8-6 loss to the Diamondbacks.
Quintana allowed eight earned runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts over 41/3 innings, his shortest outing of the year, and the Sox again couldn't complete a rally.
The Sox went 3-7 on a 10-game West Coast road trip and return to Chicago for a day off Thursday before a four-game weekend series against the Tigers.
All of the damage came in Quintana's final 11/3 innings after he started the day with three perfect innings.
He gave up back-to-back doubles to Nick Ahmed and Paul Goldschmidt to allow the first run in the fourth. Chris Owings followed with an RBI single to tie it at 2-2.
Jake Lamb hit a two-run homer and Ahmed had a two-run single as the Diamondbacks pulled away with a six-run fifth inning.
Leury Garcia hit his sixth homer of the year in the second off Diamondbacks right-hander Randall Delgado.
Jose Abreu doubled, advanced on a passed ball and scored when Avisail Garcia grounded into a double play in the fourth to put the Sox up 2-0.
Abreu added a two-run homer in the sixth, the 101st of his career after he hit No. 100 Tuesday night. The Sox added a pair of runs in the seventh.
