White Rose Shopping Centre dessert shops 'a fat man's dream' says Rate My Takeaway star Danny Malin

Popular YouTube star Danny Malin has dubbed popular Leeds dessert shops as a "fat man's dream".

The reviewer recently hosted a meet and greet event at the White Rose Shopping Centre in support of Macmillan's 'World's Biggest Coffee' morning. Fans and shoppers were able to meet him on Tuesday, September 27, by donating to the charity.

Of course the Rate My Takeaway presenter couldn't go to the shopping spot in Dewsbury Road without trying some of the eateries on offer. A selection of stores within the White Rose donated cakes to be taken away and Danny tried various products.

Steven Foster, Centre Director at the White Rose, said: "We love welcoming our friend Danny to White Rose – we know he’s partial to a few of our restaurants – and we’re excited to be hosting his charity meet and greet in support of Macmillan. We’ll be joining the queue for a cake and chat with Danny on the day."

Danny Malin said: "Now then guys. It’s been amazing bumping into so many of you. love meeting new people."

After Danny was seen chatting to fans and shoppers, in his usual style he rated popular Yorkshire baked goods spots Batch'd, Deneco's, and Oh So Yum, provided him with some treats to try. "Let's see what the White Rose has got to offer", he said before tucking in.

Deneco's

Danny started off by trying Deneco's. The spot has become best known for its desserts, and 18 flavours of ice cream where you'll be "spoilt for choice".

He was served pancakes with milk chocolate and white chocolate, topped with strawberries, marshmallows, Biscoff, and whipped cream. He also tried a dessert cup called Strawberry Glory with cream and brownie inside.

Tucking into the chocolate cup first with a beaming smile on his face, he said: "It's like a fat man's dream I think I've woke up and gone to heaven here. That chocolate is nice oh my god."

After giving the first dessert a 10/10 rating, he moved onto the pancakes he was given. He soon discovered the 'pancake' was in fact dozens of mini pancakes drenched in sauce and toppings.

Danny said: "If I'm honest with you those pancakes are just like the ones you do at home but they're more fluffy.

"Sometimes when you got to places you get these American pancakes and they taste like they've been sat in a packet for a while. Oh Deneco's, you've outdone yourself there. Amazing desserts."

Batch'd

Next up Danny tried the popular doughnuts from Batch'd. The brand has become very popular in Leeds, with stores in Leeds Trinity, Leeds Railway Station, and White Rose Shopping Centre.

The brand also has stores and stalls in Sheffield, Hull, Manchester, Birmingham, London, and more places. Tucking into the much-loved spot, he branded them "bang on".

He was served two doughnuts - an Oreo flavoured one, and a chocolate éclair doughnut. Reviewing them, he said: "These are what I call...oh my god. These are beautiful.

"You know sometimes with doughnuts they taste a bit oily, but that is absolutely spot on. It tastes nice and fresh. Absolutely bang on.

"The doughnut's absolutely spot on."

Oh So Yum

Last but not least, Danny tried desserts from Huddersfield's BBC Apprentice winner Harpreet Kaur's store Oh So Yum. He was given a peanut and milk chocolate waffle to try first.

"The smell of the peanut butter is amazing. Let's get messy", he said. "If you like peanut butter. My mum would have loved this."

"Cooked to perfection, the bubble waffle has got a nice crisp to the edge." Saying his daughter Summer loves pancakes, he next dived into a fruit and Nutella crepe with bananas and strawberries.

"I can't find a fault in any of that. Full of flavour. Just what you'd want. Just what you ordered."

"They're all a solid ten from me".
