WASHINGTON _ The White House plans to take aim at polls it believes are manipulating public opinion of the GOP tax bill, according to talking points obtained by Roll Call.
The list _ which largely includes broad summary points Republican leaders have long cited to support their tax legislation _ also attacks the media's coverage of what the administration appears to believe are skewed polls.
"These 'push polls' accomplish their task by asking skewed questions that misrepresent our policies," the document reads. "Dishonest members of the media are happy to participate in this charade because it supports their mission, which is to oppose and derail the President's agenda."
A White House spokesperson did not immediately respond to request for comment.
The document also states that recent polling "reflects the public's distrust of Congress" and that some _ such as a recent Quinnipiac poll _ grossly undersample Republicans.
"This tactic did not work during the election, and it will not work now," it reads.
The document cites several polls, however, that the White House implies show support for both an update to the tax code and several key provisions in House and Senate legislation, including recent Economist/YouGov and Politico/Morning Consults polling results.
