The White House has said it does not have an answer as to whether wind turbines cause cancer.
Donald Trump startled Washington on Tuesday when he claimed that noise from turbines, which he sometimes calls windmills, causes the disease.
There is no evidence to support his claim.
Mercedes Schlapp, White House Director of Strategic Communications, was pressed on the US leader’s untruthful claims on Wednesday.
When asked if noise from wind turbines caused cancer she shrugged and said she “does not have an answer” to the question.
“If you have a windmill anywhere near your house, congratulations, your house just went down 75 per cent in value,” Mr Trump told an audience at the National Republican Congressional Committee on Tuesday evening.
“And they say the noise causes cancer. You tell me that one, OK? Rerrrr rerrrr!”
Mr Trump has repeatedly criticised wind turbines and launched a legal challenge opposing a turbine development in Scotland, before he was elected president.
He said the turbines would ruin the view from his multi-million pound golf development in the country and called for the plan to be scrapped.
The UK Supreme Court eventually rejected Mr Trump’s legal challenge in 2015.
