White House Farm viewers outraged as policeman puts the Bamber family dog in a cupboard

White House Farm viewers were left outraged during Wednesday night's series opener, after an armed police officer was seen placing the family dog in a cupboard.

ITV's new six-part drama, which depicts the tragic deaths of five members of the Bamber family, opened with suspenseful scenes, as authorities arrived at the Essex property after receiving a phonecall from Jeremy Bamber in the early hours of the morning.

Upon entering the master bedroom, the police discovered June Bamber's body, as well as her daughter Sheila's, next to the bed.

The pooch, who was hiding under the bed in fear, was then "shoved" into the cupboard in order to avoid compromising the crime scene, which horrified many viewers.

What is White House Farm about?

ITV's new six-part drama portrays the White House Farm murders of 1985.

At 3.30am on August 7, police received a call from Bamber saying his father Nevill Bamber had rung him and sounded panicked.

Nevill reportedly said that Jeremy's sister Sheila had "gone crazy" and that she had a gun.

Bamber then went to the house and met the authorities there, as they investigated the scene.

Upon entering the house, they discovered Nevill Bamber's body in the kitchen, before finding his wife and Sheila dead in the bedroom upstairs.

The murder weapon was placed on Sheila's body, which was positioned next to a Bible.

Sheila's twin sons, 6, were also murdered in their bedroom.

White House Farm continues on ITV next Wednesday at 9pm.
