White Castle Has An Unexpected New Offering (Here's How to Get It)

Some fast food brands have spent the past decade or two attempting to project a sophisticated image. Wendy’s has stressed its salads and fresh offerings, and McDonald’s and Burger have both offered plant-based burgers.

That’s all well and good, of course, as people have, on the whole, become more health conscious of late, particularly after the pandemic, and pay more attention to what they are putting into their bodies.

But sometimes, you can find success by cutting against the dominant grain.

While “people say this sort of thing on Twitter and Reddit” isn’t an exact way of measuring public sentiment, it does give you an idea of what some people are thinking, and you can certainly find opinions that translate roughly to “this sort of thing is a bit fancy for my tastes” and “if I wanted to eat healthy, I’d stay home and cook.”

Some people just want fast food because it’s cheap, greasy and satisfying, perhaps during or after an evening of indulgence. And no fast food brand is more willing to lean into its image of “hits the spot after a night out” than White Castle. For proof, just look at the 2004 cinematic classic “Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle.”

White Castle Knows What It Is

White Castle is now going one step further, and is teaming with the cultishly loved Philadelphia brewer Evil Genius Beer Company for the new, limited-edition Main Character Energy, a beer that's "best served with Sliders."

In case you’re not terminally online (and honestly, good for you) “main character energy” is usually a term for whomever is getting roasted on Twitter that day for saying or doing something stupid or repellent. It’s generally a bad thing, so we can assume there’s some irony going on.

Main Character Energy is a 6% ABV Hazy Kiwi Dragon Fruit IPA with hints of both Simcoe and Strata hops for a tropical fruit and zesty citrus character. Last year, they released "It Hits Different," a Tangerine IPA.

The alliance was celebrated last week with a party at the Evil Genius brewery where attendees received a complimentary can of the new collaboration. Now, the beer is available wherever Evil Genius is sold (which usually means your fancier liquor stores) for around $11.99.

You’ll have to pick up sliders separately, as fast food outlets are generally zoned against being able to sell alcohol. If you enjoy enough cans at once, who knows, maybe you'll take actions that will lead you to becoming the main character on Twitter for the day. Good for you?
