Whitburn superstar Lewis Capaldi top of the charts for second year running

Lewis Capaldi is on course to have the most popular album of the year in the UK for the second year in a row,

The Whitburn lad’s debut ‘Divinely Uninspired To A Heavenly Extent’ spent ten weeks at Number One and has not moved from the Top 10 since it was released in May 2019.

So far the album has sold over one million copies in the UK alone, including 300,000 this year, and that has him on course to be the biggest of album of the year again in 2020.

The Official Charts said that despite another 30 albums having reached number one already this year it is Lewis who is on course to have the biggest selling of the year.

The 23-year-old has been busy whilst stuck indoors during the global health pandemic and has recorded a lot of new material.

However, he has no plans to release any new music this year and quipped that people have “suffered enough.”

Speaking on radio recently Lewis said: “Hopefully I will release a new song and a new album next year, I won’t release another album this year or anything.

“I think people have suffered enough in 2020 – they don’t need another song from me.

“So far we’ve written like 50 songs for it and like three or four of them are good, which is a good ratio I think.

“I am surprised at how productive I have been during lockdown as I thought I’d just sit in my pants all day and that would be it.”
