Whitburn lad nominated for 2020 Scottish Album of the Year (SAY) Awards

Lewis Capaldi has been nominated for the 2020 Scottish Album of the Year (SAY) Awards.

The Whitburn superstar is one of 20 nominees on a long list for his album Divinely Uninspired to a
Hellish Extent.

The SAY award is Scotland’s national music prize, given annually for an outstanding album produced by a Scottish artist and was launched in 2012 by the Scottish Music Industry Association (SMIA) in partnership with Creative Scotland.

Lewis said he was honoured to be “nominated for such an incredible award”. He quipped: “It would be quite nice to win to not bring any further prolonged shame on my household after being named as the only non-essential worker in the house.”

The West Lothian lad has had a fair bit of spare time recently with no gigs due to Covid-19.

But he says his mother has been keeping him entertained by forwarding on abuse he has been getting from online trolls.

Speaking to the Mail on Sunday, the chart star said: “She reads negative comments on Twitter and sends them to me. People saying I look like Meat Loaf.

“I’m like, ‘Mum, stop doing it – you built up my self-esteem over years, and now you’re systematically destroying it.’”

The SAY awards will be go digital this year and will be live streamed on Thursday October 29.
