Whitburn boss Jamie Sandilands delighted with progress despite defeat to Linlithgow Rose

Whitburn boss Jamie Sandilands says the club are moving in the right direction after a spirited 3-1 friendly defeat to Linlithgow Rose.

It was the Burnie's fourth pre-season clash and a marked improvement on a 5-0 loss to the same opposition last term. That, the gaffer says, is a clear sign of progress as they prepare for their maiden East of Scotland Football League season.

Speaking to the West Lothian Courier, he said: "I was very happy because we more than competed with a very good side. Yeah, they were the better side and they took their chances well but you can see the progress because there wasn’t a huge gulf between the two sides like there was last year.

"That's not because they've gone backwards, it's because we've taken steps forward. It was a good barometer for us and that's why we played them."

He added: "I'm really happy with where we're at and the progress that has been made through the pre-season games we've had so far.

"We had three 17-year-olds on the park against Linlithgow and they were all demanding to get on the ball and wanting to be part of things and try to change the game. That's very pleasing to see and is a positive sign for the future."
