Whitburn boss Jamie Sandilands delighted with display in debut win

Jamie Sandilands made a winning start to life as Whitburn boss as they took the points against Sauchie.

Darren Tomaszewski opened the scoring early on for the Burnie but they needed two goals in the final 20 minutes to seal the deal after they were pegged back.

Martin Russell restored his the lead before a Reece Duncan penalty completed the scoring.

A delighted Sandilands said: “It was important to just get the result with it being the first game but we also put in a very good performance.

“I thought we dominated the first half and we were a little disappointed to be only one goal up - and even then our keeper has had to make a tremendous save just before the break.”

He added: “We were a bit slow to start the second half and then we switch off for the only time in the game and concede.

“I was thinking this is where we find out what the guys are all about and the experienced ones took the game by the scruff of the neck which was really pleasing.

“The second goal was a brilliant move that we’d worked on and then young Kieran Mitchell’s pace allows him to get in behind the defence and he wins us the penalty. There was a lot of positives to take.”
