Whisky Distillery and brewery at Luss on banks of Loch Lomond given green light

Plans for a new micro-distillery and brewery on the shores of Loch Lomond have just been given the green light.

The Glen Luss project first revealed the plans in April last year, with a view to raising funds to build the new attraction at existing vacant premises in the village of Luss.

According to the team behind the project, the new site will be the first Experimental brewery and distillery on the shores of Loch Lomond and aims to produce a range of different drinks including single malt Scotch whisky, locally sourced botanical infused gin, rums, a vodka, and a range of craft beer.

They confirmed they had secured planning approval on their Facebook page, posting: "Last week we received the great news that our planning application had been approved. To say we are excited would be an understatement!

"This is a major milestone in our journey to bring our vision for the First Experimental Brewery and Distillery, on the shores of Loch Lomond, creating craft drinks and experiences to life!"

Though they had originally planned to be up and running in May this year, it appears the covid outbreak has delayed their plans.

The added: “2020 played hard ball, and 2021 looks like it will bring its own challenges, but that will not stop us.

"Although Covid has dented our plans we are on course to open to the public and start laying spirit down in the latter part of 2021."

Co-founded by entrepreneurs Trystan Powell, Patrick Colquhoun and Daniel Lewis, the trio confirmed that the project should create around 25 new jobs for the area.

Adding that community benefit will be at the "heart" of their vision, with the distillery looking to commit 5 per cent of profits annually, for an initial period of ten years, to a Community Development Fund for projects in the Luss and Arden area.

The team added: “2021 is shaping up to be a great year, we are literally fizzing (again) with excitement and simply cannot wait to welcome you to Glen Luss later this year.”
