Whirlpool recall three more models of Hotpoint washing machines due to fire safety concerns

Whirlpool have recalled three more models of Hotpoint washing machines amid fire safety safety concerns.

The manufacturer recalled a number of Hotpoint and Indesit appliances in December because of a flaw in the door-locking system.

This could cause the machines to overheat and potentially catch fire.

The safety issue is associated with the machine's heating element, being activated during washing cycles above 20C.

A spokesperson said: "When the heating element in the washing machine is activated, in very rare cases a component in the door lock system can overheat, which, depending on product features, can pose a risk of fire."

To avoid any risks, consumers are advised to unplug and not use their machines.

Whirlpool is advising all customers who purchased a Hotpoint or Indesit washing machine since 2014, to contact them immediately in order to identify whether their product is affected.

The three further models added to the recall are WMAQC 641P UK, WMAQG 741P UK and WMFG 741G UK.

The majority of the affected appliances are Hotpoint while three Indesit models are also being recalled.

A full list of all affected machine models can be found here.

The model codes can be found inside the washing machine's door as well as on a label at the back of the appliance.

Alternatively people can check if their machine is affected by calling 0818 903 281 or by clicking here.
