While away from Rams OTAs, Todd Gurley is busy giving back

Much was made this week when Todd Gurley was not spotted on the field for the start of organized team activities. The Rams running back has been busy traveling and giving back this offseason while remaining away from the team.

Some wondered if Gurley and the Rams are avoiding speculation about his knee by skipping OTAs, but the two-time All-Pro isn’t gallivanting around on vacation. He’s supporting the local community.

Uninterrupted shared a video Wednesday of Gurley reading a book to kids at L.A.’s Best, which is an afterschool education program in Los Angeles.

LAPD commander Gerald Woodyard also posted these photos on Twitter of Gurley and former Patriots wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell at 92nd Street Elementary.

Both Gurley and Mitchell attended the University of Georgia.

OTAs aren’t required for players and there’s no penalty for skipping them. Gurley, the 2017 Offensive Player of the Year, is a proven player who isn’t in danger of losing a roster spot like some others on the 90-man squad.

He has nothing to prove to the Rams, and considering he’s coming off a knee injury, there’s no sense in rushing him back on the field. He still has a training regimen and is working out during the offseason, but he’s doing it at his pace, which the Rams respect.
