Which type of role will Titans RB Dion Lewis play in 2019?

There’s no doubt Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry played second-fiddle to former New England Patriots rusher Dion Lewis at the start of the 2018 season.

But that suddenly changed toward the end of the year, when Henry began his redemption tour and ultimately recorded a record-breaking season.

With the former Alabama back expected to carry this momentum into 2019, what type of role does this leave Lewis with?

One fan inquired about this topic in team writer Jim Wyatt’s latest mailbag post.

According to Wyatt, we can expect to see a good deal of rotation in players, and Lewis will be one of those that sees action regardless.

“This gives me a chance to hammer home the fact coaches will rotate players,” he wrote. “Derrick Henry is going to get a lot of work this season, but the team is going to play Dion Lewis. In OTAs, he’s caught a ton of passes, and I could see some quick pitches and dump-offs to him in space, where he can make guys miss. How much he’ll play will depend on how games go, but he’s going to have a role, which will be bigger in some games than others.

Last season, Lewis recorded 155 carries for 517 yards and one touchdown. He was also functional as a pass-catcher, posting 59 receptions for 400 yards and a score.

It will be interesting to see just how powerful Henry can continue to be, and how large of a role Lewis can earn as the upcoming season approaches.
