Which Terry Pratchett book should Jonathan Jones read?

“No offence, but Pratchett is so low on my list of books to read before I die that I would have to live a million years before getting round to him.” Despite not having read Terry Pratchett, Guardian art critic Jonathan Jones wrote a piece yesterday in which he detailed all the reasons he considered the author of the Discworld series an “ordinary potboiler,” “trash” and, by extension, not “actual literature”.

In response, Guardian books writer Sam Jordison pointed out that “there are dozens of Discworld books to choose from and many of them display ‘the talent of an angel’ that Jones found in Bukowski”. Pratchett belongs to his readers – those who have followed his 41 Discworld novels. We’re calling on their expertise to make Jones stand corrected: the critic will read whichever Pratchett book gets the most nominations in the comments below – and he will write a follow-up piece about it.

Let us know which Terry Pratchett book Jonathan Jones should read in the comments – and please explain your choice.
