Which teams are competing at the World Cup?

All eyes will be on Qatar over the next month or so as the World Cup kicks off in the Middle East.

It will take some getting used to, with a major tournament taking place in November and December, rather than the traditional summer months, but as soon as we are in the swing of things that won't matter one jot.

The competition starts on Sunday, November 20 with the opening game between hosts Qatar and Ecuador in group A.

Group B is where all the drama will be for Wales, who face off against the US, Iran and England before the month is out.

There are 32 teams competing to be crowded world champions - here they are in full:

Group A: Qatar, Ecuador, Senegal, Netherlands

Group B: England, Iran, USA, Wales

Group C: Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Poland

Group D: France, Australia, Denmark, Tunisia

Group E: Spain, Costa Rica, Germany, Japan

Group F: Belgium, Canada, Morocco, Croatia

Group G: Brazil, Serbia, Switzerland, Cameroon

Group H: Portugal, Ghana, Uruguay, South Korea

Who missed out?

Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland all missed out on qualification, while the main notable absentee are Euro 2020 champions Italy, who lost to minnows North Macedonia in the qualifiers.

In South America, Peru, Chile and Colombia didn't make it, while African countries Egypt, Algeria and Nigeria also failed to qualify.
