The Coronation of King Charles III will take place in just a few weeks time.
Falling just four weeks before the 70th anniversary of the Coronation of his mum Queen Elizabeth II, the event will form the centrepiece of days of celebration to mark the official beginning of the new king's reign. The ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 6 at Westminster Abbey in London. The King will be crowned alongside Camilla, the Queen Consort.
The Coronation service will begin at 11am at Westminster Abbey. After the Coronation service, the King and Queen Consort will return to Buckingham Palace as part of a larger ceremonial procession, known as ‘The Coronation Procession’. Their Majesties will travel in the Gold State Coach, drawn by eight Windsor Grey horses.
Pubs, clubs and bars across England and Wales are able to stay open for an extra two hours on the Friday and Saturday of the coronation weekend. People are also invited to hold street parties as a celebration.
