Which quarterback does CBS give the Commanders in new mock draft?

Another week, another round of mock drafts. With the offseason now fully underway for all 32 NFL teams, trades can happen, although they will not be official until the new league year begins next month.

The Washington Commanders were a part of a big quarterback trade four years ago when they agreed to a deal with the Kansas City Chiefs to acquire Alex Smith in a January 2018 deal. So, Washington could still swing big for a quarterback long before April’s draft, meaning it will not be in the market for a passer early in the draft.

However, for now, the Commanders still have a massive hole at the game’s most important position.

On Monday, CBS Sports released a new mock draft with no quarterbacks going inside the top 10. That’s not a surprise, with many teams concerned about the lack of a clear-cut No. 1 quarterback in the 2022 NFL draft.

While no quarterbacks landed inside the top 10, we know that will probably not be the case in the actual draft.

It shouldn’t surprise you that CBS gave Washington the first quarterback in the new mock draft at No. 11 overall in Ole Miss junior Matt Corral. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Corral has been a popular choice for the Commanders in the early mock draft.

Taylor Heinicke was good for much of the ’21 season but you’d have to imagine Washington will think long and hard about a QB, especially if they’re picking this high.

There’s certainly risk with Corral, but there are always risks anytime you pick a quarterback in the first round — this year or any year.
