A number of schools have reopened across Sunderland as lockdown restrictions continue to ease.
Almost 60 schools across the city have already opened their doors to children while another 20 are due to reopen on June 15.
It comes after the government allowed schools to reopen to nursery, reception, year one, and year six children from June 1.
Schools across the country had to prepare for the children's return back to the classroom with social distancing measures and guidance for parents.
However, Sunderland City Council leader Councillor Graeme Miller said previously said it was "premature" to send children back to school claiming the government is "needlessly risking their health."
He said that many parents and teachers in Sunderland are anxious about the prospect of returning to school and that their concerns are "legitimate" based on the Covid-19 infection level in the city.
Schools in the city remain open for vulnerable children, children of key workers and children with an Education, Health and Care Plan.
