Fashion retailer Primark has reopened its stores in England today in line with the latest Government easing of Covid-19 lockdown measures.

Some shoppers were seen queueing outside several of the chain's branches on Monday morning as the business readied to welcome customers for the first time since the restrictions were rolled out in March.

Those waiting were separated by new queue markers designed to ensure people adhere to social distancing guidelines and remain two metres apart.

Changes in store will meanwhile require customers to adjust to fewer tills, no testers in the health and beauty departments and increased cleaning throughout trading hours.

So, here is what you need to know about the return of the high street giant:

Primark has 188 stores around the UK, with shops in Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland remaining closed for now (PA)

Which Primark stores are reopening?

Primark reopened each of its 153 stores in England on Monday after the Government gave the green light for all non-essential shops to begin welcoming customers again from June 15.

The company is awaiting further guidance regarding any resumption of trading in its stores in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

It has previously said it anticipates openings in those locations in "late June".

Combined, Primark has 188 stores around the UK.

What safety measures will be in place?

Primark has put in place a range of measures designed to safeguard customers and staff by ensuring its shops are 'Covid secure', as required by the Government.

The chain has rolled out a strict social distancing protocol that will be used across all of its stores, increased personal protection for staff as well as shoppers and also ramped up cleaning efforts.

Among the measures being implemented are a limit on the number of customers allowed in stores at any one time, the closure of fitting rooms as well as customer toilets and a reconfigured queueing system

Hand sanitiser stations have been installed in stores, Perspex screens put up around tills and face masks and gloves made available to employees.

Each store has also been deep cleaned before reopening while cleaning throughout trading hours will be ramped up.

Basket handles will be cleaned after each use and sanitising wipes made available for staff to sterilise cashpoints.
