The 40 yard dash is always the most exciting even of the NFL combine. This year Georgia has a lot of fast potential NFL prospects: Riley Ridley WR, Terry Godwin WR, Mecole Hardman WR, Elijah Holyfield RB, and Deandre Baker CB.
But my pick for the former Bulldog with the fastest 40 yard dash has to be Mecole Hardman.
Hardman has the next level of speed required for the longer distance 40 yard dash. Expect Baker and Godwin to give Hardman a challenge for the fastest time.
The 3-cone drill is actually more important in terms of a combine drill transitioning to the NFL level, but the 40 yard dash is more fun to watch. A good 40 time can substantially increase a player’s draft stock. Just look at 2017 top ten draft pick WR John Ross, who broke Chris Johnson’s record 4.24 second time.
