Which Dolphins offensive player will serve as X-factor vs. Colts?

The Miami Dolphins are facing a road trip today to the unfriendly confines of Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, looking to notch their second win of the season after physically dominating the New York Jets in Week 9. And the Dolphins will have their hands full — as the Indianapolis Colts enter this football contest conceding less than 300 yards of offense in each of their last two games this season (Denver, Pittsburgh).

Can the Dolphins get the ball moving against the Colts? If they do, it’s going to come down to a select handful of individuals providing extraordinary efforts for the Dolphins. But who is the x-factor for the Miami Dolphins offense this week?

To find the answer, all you need to do is go back to last week’s contest against the Jets.

Tight end Mike Gesicki set career highs last week against the Jets in receptions (6) and receiving yards (95). And Miami will need him now, more than ever, to keep that momentum rolling for another week. With WR Preston Williams down and out for the rest of the 2019 season, Miami needs a secondary pass target to step up and provide another target to Ryan Fitzpatrick. Gesicki has the open field athleticism to stress linebackers, and provided the Dolphins continue to move Gesicki around to manufacture favorable mismatches, he’s the guy to step up to the plate and help keep Miami’s passing offense humming against the Colts.

As the Dolphins’ enter the second half of the season, sustained growth is now a key barometer to progress for this 2019 slate of games. Getting continued performances like the one Miami saw from Gesicki last week will go a long way in providing stability and excitement to the tight end position in 2020.
